创办于1929年，原名养正义务小学，1985年迁址于当年民族英雄郑成功操练水师的演武池畔，为纪念郑成功的业绩，市政府将它改名为演武小学。

民立小学创建于1907年，是厦门市为数不多的百年老校之一，也是家喻户晓的一所名校。清光绪三十三年，由基督教教会创办“民立小学堂” ，1956年人民政府接办民立小学，1957年合并了和安小学。
